oscar owl at home in the audubon center for birds of prey - maitland florida

Is it live? or is it a "Mary L's" wood carving?

That's the question oscar asked the first time he saw Mary L. Johnson's "Eagle". Oscar is a screech owl residing at Florida Audubon's center for birds of prey. He is non-releasable due to imprinting by humans and spends his time at the center where he is protected from his natural enemies.
Mary generously donated a limited edition eagle carving to the center to help raise funds for the wingspread renovation project. When oscar first saw the sculpture he was amazed at how lifelike the eagle was! his ear tufts immediately went up and he made himself very tall and thin...a behavior exhibited by screech owls in the wild when they are alarmed and want to make themselves "invisible" to a predator. Mary called Oscar's behavior the "ultimate compliment".
You can visit Oscar at the center for birds of prey at 1101 Audubon Way in Maitland, Florida. Oscar can be sponsored through the adopt-a-bird program which provides for his care and feeding. for more information, call 407/644-0190.
